Overview

Bizplan is a business planning tool by Startups.com that we tested while building a sample plan from scratch.

It’s clearly made for beginners: The interface is clean, the step-by-step builder is easy to follow, and the drag-and-drop format takes away some of the friction.

You get access to Fundable, their fundraising platform, plus a library of courses and resources if you’re part of their Startups Unlimited bundle. That part adds value if you’re brand new to starting a business.

When we used it, the first impression was good. It helped us structure the plan quickly without having to guess what came next. The prompts in each section were helpful, and it did make writing less overwhelming.

But the forecasting tool only works if your model fits their template; there’s no way to tweak revenue logic, compare scenarios, or build something custom.

We couldn’t run a what-if analysis, and the final output felt too generic to send to an investor. There’s also no AI assistance, which would’ve been helpful when editing or rewriting sections.

Collaboration was another weak point. You can share the plan and leave comments, but there’s no real-time editing or version tracking. That made it harder to work as a team or review changes easily.

Lifetime Subscription

Bizplan’s pricing is simple but a bit puzzling once you dig in. All plans—monthly, annual, and lifetime offer the exact same features: Unlimited business plans, full collaboration access, and entry to Startups.com resources. The only difference is how you pay.

The monthly plan at $29 is best if you just need it for a short-term project. The annual plan saves you a bit if you commit for a year.

But the $349 lifetime plan only makes sense if you plan to use Bizplan for more than 15 months; otherwise, you’re overpaying upfront for the same access.

Since there’s no feature difference, the lifetime option feels less like an upgrade and more like a convenience for those who prefer a one-and-done payment. It’s not bad, just not strategic unless you’re in it for the long haul.

Price Comparison

Bizplan’s pricing starts at $29/month, or $249/year if you pay annually. There’s also a $349 lifetime plan with no recurring fees.

The catch is that all three plans offer the exact same features. You get everything upfront: The builder, financial tools, collaboration, and access to Fundable and Startups.com courses.

Compared to other tools, this flat pricing is straightforward but also inflexible. There’s no scaled pricing for solo users or growing teams, and no AI tools or advanced forecasting included at any level.

Upmetrics, by contrast, offers more pricing flexibility across multiple tiers, starting at just $7/month. It includes AI writing, customizable forecasting, export options, and real-time team collaboration even in lower-tier plans.

If you want more control without overspending, Upmetrics gives you more options to grow.

Bizplan is a good business planning tool with features like a guided business plan creator, financial tools, a fundraising platform, educational resources, and more. But, it does have its limitations. For instance, the tool lacks industry-specific guidance and business plan templates, a significant drawback for niche business owners.

Bizplan has three plans as a part of its subscription model: Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime. Monthly and annual plans cost $29 and $20.75 per month, respectively, whereas lifetime plans cost $349.

While Bizplan does offer a range of useful business planning features, you can get better business plan software with similar or advanced functionalities at much more affordable rates. You may consider going for Upmetrics, which includes all the necessary business planning features that Bizplan may not. Bizplan’s starter plan starts at $7, whereas the premium costs $14 per month.

Bizplan misses many important features, such as AI assistance, strategic planning, and a one-page business plan builder. Upmetrics doesn’t come with these limitations and offers all of these features.
