As we send out the last newsletter of the year, I’ve decided to go slightly off-topic.
Let’s talk about New Year resolutions: why most of them fail and how you can break the cycle.
Why I’m saying this, because we kinda did it.
In fact, I believe we stood true to our resolutions.
Our resolutions
Any guesses? What has always been our resolution?
Note: We’re only discussing business resolutions here.
“Simplify business planning for everyone because not everyone is an expert.”
(easy guess, huh)
Sounds simple? Well, if it does, remember this: simplifying business planning for everyone involves:
- Constantly updating our tool and its features
- Providing impeccable customer support
- Offering personalized services
- And actually making business planning easier
So, how we managed to stick to it.
We didn’t just have a resolution—we combined it with a goal.
As a team, we promised to put in the hard work to help 100K entrepreneurs/business owners. Unfortunately, we fell a little short.
We all had that bittersweet feeling of giving it our all, coming so close, but just not quite crossing the finish line.
But here’s the thing: while we didn’t hit the decided mark, the effort we poured into this goal ensured that we stayed true to our resolution.
And this is where most resolutions fail—by not pairing them with a clear picture of the destination.
The lesson? Resolution is a process. A goal is the destination.
If you have a resolution, create a business plan. Supplement your resolution with a realistic goal. Have a clear vision of that goal, stick to the process, and you won’t “fail” your resolutions.
Don’t think about the goal you didn’t achieve. Instead, reflect on the progress you made by sticking to your resolution.
There’s your answer.
